The handwritten note (recto) from Solomon Schechter to Agnes Lewis, dated 13 May 1896, informing her that the manuscript page which she left with him for study and inspection 'represents a piece of the original Hebrew of Ecclesiasticus' (underscore in Schechter's letter).

The handwritten note (verso) from Solomon Schechter to Agnes Lewis, dated 13 May 1896. Note his statement that he will call on her 'tomorrow about 11 p.m.' This may be a mistake, since one may question Schechter's intention to call on Mrs Lewis at such a late hour. Perhaps he meant 11:00 a.m., but in his 'haste and great excitement' (see the closing lines), he wrote '11 p.m.' Or should we imagine a scholar busy at work during the day who truly did intend to visit Mrs Lewis at the late hour on the morrow?
